Code of Conduct
Code of Conduct for Students:
The Seva Bharati Mahavidyalaya Authority invites the co-operation from the students and their guardians in creation and maintenance of the atmosphere conducive to academic and cultural development, and the traditions of the college. Students are especially invited to cooperate and to ensure enforcement of the rules regarding discipline of the college. The following are some major code of conduct for the students of our college:
- Students must be punctual and regular in attending classes, tutorials, class tests examinations etc.
- The students must have to obtain required percentage for attending classes otherwise they will not be allowed to sit in the University Examination.
- The students must have to submit the assignments in time and unjustified absence from internal assessments will be treated as breach of conduct.
- Mobile Phone during the class hours is strictly prohibited.
- Use of unfair means, copying, cheating, exchanging answer scripts, etc. during examinations will not be tolerated by any means.
- Each and every student should follow the different notices (both online & offline) either put up on the Notice Board or in the WhatsApp Group. No excuse will be considered for ignorance in this regard.
- The students must follow the rules & regulations of the Central Library of the College.Every student must take/renew their Library Membership at the beginning of each Semester.
- All the students are expected to behave with courtesy with both the teaching and non teaching staff members in and outside the College.
- All the students are expected to come to College with proper uniform maintaining decency.
- Students must carry their Identity Cards while entering the College and always keep it on person during College hours inside the campus.
- Students are not allowed to loiter or gossip at the corridors of the College during class hours.
- Students are not allowed to invite friends from outsides to the College.
- Smoking, chewing and spitting tobacco products or pan masala, consumption of alcohol or narcotic drugs is strictly prohibited inside the college premises. Violation of this rule will invite disciplinary action.
- Students must refrain from mishandling and tampering with library books, laboratory equipments or computer systems, of the college.
- Girl’s Common Room is restricted only for girl students of the college.
- Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited. Disciplinary action will be taken against those who violate this rule. Any student may lodge complaint to the Anti-Ragging Cell of the college.
- Habitual misconduct of a student will be considered as a serious offence and will result in suspension of the student with immediate effect.
Code of Conduct for Teaching Staff Members:
The Seva Bharati Mahavidyalaya Authority invites the co-operation from all the Teaching Staff including Librarian of the college in creation and maintenance of the atmosphere conducive to Teaching-Learning process as well as Cultural Development of the college. All the teachers are especially invited to cooperate and to ensure enforcement of the rules & regulations regarding discipline of the college and to maintain the different rules & code of conduct framed by UGC, New Delhi, Vidyasagar University & Dept. of Higher Education, Govt. of West Bengal. The following are some of the major Code of Conduct and Code of Professional Ethics for the teachers of our college as per UGC:
I.Teachers including Librarian and their Responsibilities: Teacher should:
- Adhere to a responsible pattern of conduct and demeanor expected of them by the community.
- Manage their private affairs in a manner consistent with the dignity of the profession.
- Seek to make professional growth continuous through study and research.
- Express free and frank opinion by participation at professional meetings, seminars, conferences, etc., towards the contribution of knowledge.
- Maintain active membership of professional organizations and strive to improve education and profession through them.
- Perform their duties in the form of teaching, tutorials, practicals, seminars and research work, conscientiously and with dedication.
- Discourage and not indulge in plagiarism and other non-ethical behavior in teaching, learning and research.
- Abide by the Act, Statute and Ordinance of the University and to respect its ideals, vision, mission, cultural practices and tradition.
- Co-operate and assist in carrying out the functions relating to the educational responsibilities of the college and the university, such as assisting in admission, counselling students, assisting in examinations including supervision, invigilation, evaluation, etc.
- Participate in extension, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, including community services.
II.Teachers and Students: Teachers should:
- Respect the rights and dignity of the student in expressing his/her opinion.
- Deal justly and impartially with students regardless of their religion, caste, gender, political, economic, social and physical characteristics.
- Recognize the difference in aptitude and capabilities among students and strive to meet their individual needs.
- Encourage students to improve their attainments, develop their personalities and at the same time contribute to community welfare.
- Inculcate among students scientific temper, spirit of inquiry and ideals of democracy, patriotism, social justice, environmental protection and peace.
- Treat the students with dignity and not behave in a vindictive manner towards any of them for any reason.
- Pay attention to only the attainment of the student in the assessment of merit.
- Make themselves available to the students even beyond their class hours and help and guide students without any remuneration or reward.
- Aid students to develop an understanding of our national heritage and national goals.
- Refrain from inciting students against other students, colleagues or administration.
III.Teachers and Colleagues: Teachers should:
- Treat other members of the profession in the same manner as they themselves wish to be treated.
- Speak respectfully of other teachers and render assistance for professional betterment.
- Refrain from making unsubstantiated allegations against colleagues to higher authorities.
- Refrain from allowing considerations of caste, creed, religion, race or sex in their professional endeavor.
IV.Teachers and Authorities: Teachers should:
- Discharge their professional responsibilities according to the existing rules and adhere to procedures and methods consistent with their profession in initiating steps through their own institutional bodies and/or professional organizations for change of any such rule detrimental to the professional interest.
- Refrain from undertaking any other employment and commitment, including private tuitions and coaching classes which are likely to interfere with their professional responsibilities.
- Co-operate in the formulation of policies of the institution by accepting various offices and discharge responsibilities which such offices may demand.
- Co-operate through their organizations in the formulation of policies of the other institutions and accept offices.
- Co-operate with the authorities for the betterment of the institutions keeping in view the interest and in conformity with the dignity of the profession.
- Adhere to the terms of contract.
- Give and expect due notice before a change of position takes place.
- Refrain from availing themselves of leave except on unavoidable grounds and as far as practicable with prior intimation, keeping in view their particular responsibility for completion of academic schedule.
V.Teachers and Non-Teaching Staff Members: Teachers should:
- Treat the non-teaching staff members as colleagues and equal partners in a cooperative undertaking, within every educational institution.
- Help in the functioning of joint-staff councils covering both the teachers and the non-teaching staff members.
VI.Teachers and Guardians: Teachers should:
- Try to see through teachers’ bodies and organisations, that institutions maintain contact with the guardians, their students, send reports of their performance to the guardians whenever necessary and meet the guardians in meetings convened for the purpose for mutual exchange of ideas and for the benefit of the institution.
VII.Teachers and Society: Teachers should:
- Recognize that education is a public service and strive to keep the public informed of the educational programmes which are being provided.
- Work to improve education in the community and strengthen the community’s moral and intellectual life.
- Be aware of social problems and take part in such activities as would be conducive to the progress of society and hence the country as a whole.
- Perform the duties of citizenship, participate in community activities and shoulder responsibilities of public offices.
- Refrain from taking part in or subscribing to or assisting in any way activities, which tend to promote feeling of hatred or enmity among different communities, religions or linguistic groups but actively work for national integration.
Code of Conduct for Non-Teaching Staff Members:
The Seva Bharati Mahavidyalaya Authority invites the co-operation from all the Non-Teaching Staff Members of the college for smooth functioning and maintenance of good ambience of Teaching-Learning Environment. All the non-teaching staff members are especially invited to cooperate and to ensure enforcement of the rules & regulations regarding discipline of the college and to maintain the different rules & regulations framed by the Dept. of Higher Education, Govt. of West Bengal. The following are some of the major rules & regulations for the non-teaching staff members:
- Every staff employed in the college shall discharge his/her duties efficiently and diligently and shall conform to the rules and regulations.
- It shall be mandatory on the staff employed to do work in connection with an examination conducted by the Vidyasagar University or by the college.
- No staff shall remain absent from his/her duties without prior permission. In case of valid reasons he/she should follow the rules of the college related to attendance and leaves.
- The staff should create and maintain strong relationship with students and faculty by proper interaction, cooperation, and maintaining professional boundaries.
- The staff should treat the students with care and kindness, and maintain their dignity.
- It is responsibility of every staff member to meet the required standards for every assigned task.
- The staff member must abide by the requirements of maintaining confidentiality related to important work and information of the college.
- The staff member should take care and protect the equipment, books, documents and property of the college assigned to him/her.
- No staff member shall engage directly or indirectly in any trade or business without prior permission from the college authority.
- No staff member should engage or participate in any activity which is anti-secular or which tends to create disharmony in the society.
